When I make a purchase, I rarely turn to research to back up my decision. Instead, I usually pick out ones I’ve seen others use and rave about.
Maybe it’s the millennial in me, or that my job description involves plenty of time on social media, but I love to buy the products my friends and favorite creative entrepreneurs share about. A Simplified Planner®, PowerSheets, Tarte Shape Tape concealer—they’re all in my life because of the time and time again I saw others benefit from them.
Instagram is my go-to platform to learn and evaluate before making a purchase. I don’t usually have specific need, but as a devoted Instagram Stories fan, I notice what products are talked about. And in total marketing cliché mode, when a need arises, I turn to those I trust and their recommendations to move forward.
These background details are what inspired today’s post. As a details and productivity person, I’m always looking at what others use to work smarter. Here is a look at what’s in my work bag each day. You’ll never find me without these 13 items!
Macbook Air and charger
My laptop is still going strong after four years, and I couldn’t work outside my home office without it. It lives in my work bag.
I joined the Apple fan club as a necessity in college, and again by choice after graduation when the long hours of journalism schools finally did it in. I now use an iMac in my office but regularly turn to my laptop at home, and every time I work from a coffee shop or meet with clients.
I’m not a very quick adapter of tech products, but I said yes to AirPods after seeing my husband use and love them. I enjoy how lightweight they are compared to my larger noise-canceling headphones. Plus, the seamless user experience keeps work moving!
I’m in my second year of using this intentional goal planner. Personally, I’m a huge fan of the authentic alternative to goal planning (and achieving). The year-long workbook walks through a workflow to reflect, set meaningful goals, and measure progress.
It’s a pleasure to support this heart-centered brand as I make strides in my business and personal life. I find that keeping my PowerSheets in my work bag (instead of sitting in my office) keeps me aware of the goals I’ve set for the month.
My life would not look the same without the Simplified Planner®. Just as the name implies, it features a simple layout and eye-catching design that keeps this paper-and-pen girl happy. The come in daily and weekly formats, and I always turn to the dailies for the extra to-do list room.
She Wrote The Book On It notepad folio
I spotted this Kate Spade folio while on vacation, and the bright coral color and empowering phrase led me to grab it and head straight to the cashier. Now, whenever I pull it out in a meeting, I remember the confidence I felt in that moment.
Simplified® lined, floral notepad
Another impulse (but no regrets) purchase right here. I love everything that Simplified® produces, so I grabbed this notepad as soon as I came across it. It makes for a great holding ground to outline projects and brainstorm to-do lists.
I pull out this notepad nearly every day, where I save the folio for meetings.
I’ve learned the hard way that it’s always helpful to have a few business cards on hand! In Des Moines, you just never know what conversations may come up around town.
Paper Mate® Flair® felt tip pens
I’m learning to love neutrals more (mostly when it comes to my wardrobe), but I still reach for color at every chance I get. These pens have a smooth flow and are perfect for any color coding needs. I buy a variety pack and work my way through the colors over time.
Assorted pens and pencils
There’s always a rotating mix of my favorites nearby.
A BeautyCounter sheer lipstick
Sometimes I skip the purse and go with just my work bag, so a lip refresh comes in handy. I’m slowly working BeautyCounter products into my makeup arsenal. Tulip and Rose are my current favorites!
Burt’s Bees® vanilla bean lip balm
I always have lip balm within reach. Always. A friend introduced me to the vanilla bean version, and it’s what I currently stock up on.
Ribbon hair tie
My hair goes up and AirPods in when I go heads down on a project. I find that ribbon-based ones don’t crease my fine hair.
Hand sanitizer rounds out my work bag. It’s always handy to have on hand!
