As we crossed the mid-August mark, my calendar offered a reminder that summer is about to wrap up and fall is near.
Summer has been busy, full, and fast. While I hope to slow down a bit and savor the upcoming months, there are plenty of events marking my planner pages that are sure to offer learning experiences and lasting memories.
I think that there are many definitions for the term ‘busy’. There is the schedule with back-to-back commitments and little white space that leads to burn out, and there is also the cultivated experience of living life fully and seeking out opportunities to grow, inspire, and enjoy.
These six events stand out in my schedule, and I look forward to each and every one of them. I’m grateful for the many opportunities in and near Des Moines!
August 24-26, 2018 | New Liberty, Iowa
After spending a few days in Minneapolis this week for a marketing conference, I can’t wait to head over to New Liberty, Iowa to join in on Camp Climb as a day camper.
Camp Climb is a new retreat for women creative entrepreneurs, and I particularly enjoy that they offer one-day opportunities for ladies who can’t make it to the full weekend of bonding, outdoor activities, and learning but still want in on their amazing speaker line-up, featuring a keynote by Jenna Kutcher. I’m so grateful that an opportunity like this exists in Iowa!
I can’t wait to be in the company of 100+ passionate women in business and listen in to what the speakers have to share with us. A blog post will go up next week with my takeaways!
FemCity Des Moines: Digital Business Bootcamp
September 12 – October 24, 2018 | Virtual
If you’ve read many of my posts so far, you know how passionate I am about FemCity Des Moines and its driving force to support local female business owners. As an added resource to their regular connecting and learning-style events, they have put together a virtual business bootcamp for women in business to learn and brush up on skills related to a huge range of topics.
Starting on Sept. 12, count on an hour-long session every Wednesday at 12 p.m. These video discussions will cover:
- Taxes and data
- Business law
- Creating collaborations
- Financial health
- Personal branding
- Instagram and Pinterest
If this bootcamp series sounds interesting, you can catch me talking all things blogging on Wednesday, September 19.
Waukee Economic Development Bus Tour
September 13, 2018 | Waukee, Iowa
As a Waukee resident, I’ve gotten used to change. New spots to eat and shop, expanding communities, mystery stretches of land in construction mode—it’s all good fun (except for the constant road construction).
Next month, the Waukee Area Chamber of Commerce is leading a bus tour to highlight all of these new areas. Community members will gather to learn the inside scoop, and I can’t wait to learn more. There are so many exciting things happening here in Waukee.
Waukee YP (our local young professionals group) has their own bus this year. If you’re a young professional, or want to ride along at all, sign up here for this free event.
Vintage & Made Fair
September 29 – 30, 2018 | Dallas County Fairgrounds
If you’re a fan of vintage and handmade goods, add the Vintage & Made Fair to your calendar!
It’s one of my fall staples. I walk around booths checking out all of the cute dècor (my fave), grab a bite from a local food truck, and walk away with an armful of goodies to display in my home. Some of my favorite pieces gracing my walls and shelves come from these weekends.
Plus, I’m looking forward to visiting the Adel location, just 10 minutes away from Waukee.
November 12, 2018 | The Hall in Valley Junction
Another FemCity Des Moines event, Flourish is a community-based initiative that will assist in funding a female small business owner’s dream project.
We’re accepting applications from local women in business through Aug. 31, and I can’t wait to see this event take shape as the applicants are narrowed down to three finalists, who will present at our Nov. 12 event.
If you want to take part in choosing our winner to receive funds, head over to the Flourish website and grab tickets for the event!
Those are the events keeping my planner pages lively. What upcoming event are you most excited for?
