• This quote has lived at the top of my PowerSheets monthly tending lists quite a bit this year. It's such a powerful reminder that our calendars should be life-giving, not packed to the brim with little (if any) white space.⠀
.⠀
Earlier on in my entrepreneurship journey, I realized that I struggled to separate my calendar from my self worth. If it was a busy week, I felt like things were going well! If it was slow, I started to get worried.⠀
.⠀
Everything's a process, right? But I'm seeing the light and joy that comes with intentional planning and a calendar that has room for focus and fun. Take this as your encouragement to weed out those calendar fillers that take more from you than they give!
  • Sunday goals: Sitting down to dive in and learn what Start. is all about before @femcity_desmoines’ book club meets this week. I like to work through book club reads the week before we meet, and carving out time should be interesting in this deadline-heavy week. But I’ll find a way!
.
What book is up next on your nightstand, Audible queue, or e-reader library?
  • Welcome to another Flourish Friday! This week's How I Flourish in Des Moines post highlights @analeighwoods and her film photography business, Ana Woods Photography.⠀
.⠀
Meet Ana (or read her blog post) and you'll find that she has a heart of gold and a true passion the work she does, including wedding and portrait photography as well as freelance copywriting and social media management.⠀
.⠀
Head over to the blog (link in bio!) to learn how Ana unexpectedly found photography and built her business.
  • One month from yesterday (who’s counting?!), I’ll swap out my home office for beaches, sun, and Maui fun. I can’t wait to get back to the most peaceful place that I’ve ever experienced and take some time for slow and mini adventures with DJ for our second anniversary.
.
Also, you’d better believe I’m getting my flu shot in before we go. It fell off my list before the wedding last time and there is no way I’m repeating the flu in Maui. I’ll try anything!
.
@andazmaui, I’m coming for you oh so soon!
  • On my to-do list today 👉🏼 wrapping up a blog post about my experience as a @campclimb daycamper and the main takeaways I walked away from camp with, including some rockstar advice from @jennakutcher herself.
.
Originally I had planned to jump on this post right after camp a few weeks ago, but I found that I needed to let my learnings sit and reflect on how I can incorporate them into my life as a wife, small business owner, and friend. There’s some good stuff, and I don’t want to move forward without it!
.
What piece of advice or quote is resonating with you this week? ✨
  • These words from @msrachelhollis just stop me in my tracks. Life’s not about the upcoming deadlines or business benchmarks or have-to’s. It’s about the journey we take to find our happiness and make an impact!
.
Personally, I’ve learned sooo many lessons in the 2.5 years I’ve been a business owner. A few things I’ve had to work at: Managing my schedule, figuring out what works (and what doesn’t) to get @illuminateddev’s name out there, and defining what is enough in a world of endless to-do’s and what if’s.
.
Part of my motivation to start my #howisavorseptember journey (intro a few posts back) is to prove to myself that it’s possible to slow down (aka realize what’s nonessential and clear it from my calendar) while working smarter to get more of the most impactful stuff done. There’s no answer key when it comes to business (or life!), but I think we call all learn slowly but surely.
.
Who’s your business buddy or good friend who constantly cheers you on and offers encouragement? Tag them in the comments so we can all spread some love.
  • My Sunday night plans 👉🏼 digging in on @ashlynscarter’s The Art of Efficiency course videos and paging through lesson worksheets.
.
I’m putting Ashlyn’s advice to work and scheduling time in my week to make my way through the course. It’s a practice I’ve struggled to keep up with in past courses, and I’m ready to make it stick!
.
What are you blocking off time in your calendar for this week? For now, you can find me at my desk with lamps lit, window open, and pencil in hand. #howisavorseptember
  • In the Soults house, we cheer for our ❤️ and 💛. Cy is out for the season. Go #cyclones!
